Sharpen a blurry image.
Bring back clearer-looking edges in a slightly soft photo without turning skin, hair or bright outlines into crunchy sharpening artefacts.
Best for slight softness, not missing information
Sharpening increases contrast around detail that already exists. It can make resized photos, phone shots, product images, screenshots and mildly missed focus look clearer. Severe motion blur or a completely out-of-focus subject does not contain enough real edge detail to reconstruct reliably.
Why halo protection matters
Heavy sharpening can create pale or dark outlines around hair, text and high-contrast edges. The Avoid halos control limits how far those edge changes are allowed to go, while Protect smooth areas keeps flatter regions such as skin, skies and walls from becoming noisy.
Choose a preset by subject
Face / portrait is deliberately restrained. Photo and General are balanced starting points. Product and Text / screenshot can tolerate firmer edge treatment. After sharpening, inspect the image at normal viewing size as well as zoomed in before exporting.
JPG or PNG?
Use JPG for ordinary photographs and smaller files. Choose PNG for screenshots, graphics or anything where you want to avoid another lossy compression pass.
