Smart / Local Tools

Generate a depth map from an image.

Create a grayscale estimate of scene depth for parallax, masking, compositing, reference and 3D-style effects.

Private by design: your image stays in this browser tab. The open depth model downloads on first use and runs locally on your device.

What a depth map is

A depth map estimates which parts of an image are nearer or farther away and converts that relationship into grayscale values.

Good for

Motion graphics, parallax effects, quick masking, 3D references, focus effects and creative compositing.

Best results

Images with clear foreground, middle ground and background usually produce the most useful maps. Flat graphics and very ambiguous scenes can be less reliable.

Before you finish

A quick check makes a better result.

OutMonkey is built to be simple enough for someone doing this once and useful enough for someone who does it every day.

What this tool is for

this result

Use this tool for one focused job without opening a full application. The aim is a useful result without making you learn a full piece of software first.

Good to know

Do the small job, then move on.

Open or inspect the result once before you send it. Make sure the thing you wanted changed is actually changed and nothing else important was lost.

If the result is for someone else, open it once as they would see it. That simple check catches a surprising number of tiny mistakes.

In plain English

You do not need to be an expert.

These tools are meant for normal people as much as designers or developers. You should not need to know the technical name of a task before you can finish it.
