The annoying bit

It gets there eventually. Google has to follow three detours first.

A browser hides redirect chains beautifully. You click once and arrive. Crawlers still have to request every hop, and accidental loops or temporary redirects are easy to miss.

Worth knowing

One clean permanent redirect is usually easier to reason about.

If an old URL permanently moved, aim for a direct 301 or 308 to the final destination rather than a chain of intermediate URLs.
