Smart / Local Tools

Extract the portrait mask.

Turn a portrait into a clean foreground mask you can reuse for compositing, retouching or reference work.

Private by design: your selected photo stays in this browser tab. The open portrait model is downloaded from Hugging Face on first use and runs locally on your device.

What a portrait mask is

The exported PNG is a greyscale alpha-style mask: lighter areas represent the person, darker areas represent the background, and grey pixels preserve softer edge transitions.

What this is good for

Use it as a starting mask for compositing, retouching, selective colour work, effects, AI image workflows, motion graphics or any editor that can use a black-and-white mask.

Why keep the soft greys

A hard black-and-white silhouette can make hair and clothing edges look cut out. Keeping intermediate grey values gives downstream tools more information about semi-transparent and soft edges.

Before you finish

A quick check makes a better result.

OutMonkey is built to be simple enough for someone doing this once and useful enough for someone who does it every day.

What this tool is for

this result

Use this tool for one focused job without opening a full application. The aim is a useful result without making you learn a full piece of software first.

Good to know

Do the small job, then move on.

Open or inspect the result once before you send it. Make sure the thing you wanted changed is actually changed and nothing else important was lost.

If the result is for someone else, open it once as they would see it. That simple check catches a surprising number of tiny mistakes.

In plain English

You do not need to be an expert.

These tools are meant for normal people as much as designers or developers. You should not need to know the technical name of a task before you can finish it.
