Worth knowing

The wording changes the formula.

‘20% of 150’, ‘30 is what percentage of 80?’ and ‘how much did this increase?’ are different calculations. Pick the question first so you do not have to remember which number goes where.

Before you use it

Watch the starting value.

Percentage change uses the starting number as the base. If the starting value is zero, a percentage increase or decrease is not defined in the normal way.

The annoying bit
