Image & Photo

Remove embedded image metadata.

Re-encode the pixels into a fresh raster file so common EXIF and other embedded metadata are not copied across.

Useful to know

Four things worth knowing.

What it is

Visible data ≠ hidden data.

Visible pixels and hidden file data are different things. Privacy work often means checking both what people can see and what the file still carries with it.

Where it stops

Privacy has two layers.

Blur can leave information recognisable, and removing metadata does not hide text, faces, notifications or locations visible inside the image itself.

Check the whole shareable copy.

Open the finished image at normal size and check crop, sharpness, dimensions and file size.

Export, do not overwrite.

Make a separate sharing copy. Keep the untouched original somewhere private instead of overwriting it.
