Why is Google showing a different page title?

Sometimes the title tag is not what you thought your template was outputting. Other times Google rewrites the title it chooses to display.

The annoying bit

You wrote the title. Google has other ideas about how much of it fits.

In plain English

Your title tag is the source you control, but search engines can choose different visible wording when they think another label better matches the query or page. Start by checking the actual title and description in the live HTML before changing copy in your CMS again.

  • Check the live title tag rather than relying on the CMS preview.
  • Keep the title descriptive and specific instead of stuffing repeated terms into it.
  • Treat snippet previews as a source check, not a guarantee of exactly what Google will display.

Do the job
