Passwords · rules

Why does this password box keep rejecting my password?

Because some sites are not asking for a generally ‘strong’ password. They are asking for an exact recipe.

The annoying bit

The box wants exactly what the box wants.

In plain English

A password can be long and unique and still fail a form that demands one capital, two numbers, one symbol or a particular length. When the site gives exact rules, the easiest approach is to generate to those rules instead of repeatedly editing the same password.

  • Match the exact character counts when the form requires them.
  • Avoid confusing lookalike characters if you plan to write the password down.
  • For important accounts, unique passwords matter more than clever personal patterns.

Do the job

Enough explaining.
